Varonis Extends DatAdvantage Support to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 Environments

Organizations Powered by Linux Now Have Comprehensive Visibility Into and Auditing of Corporate Data

NEW YORK, NY – August 5, 2008– Varonis Systems Inc. (http://www.varonis.com), the leading innovator and provider of comprehensive data governance software, today announced the availability of DatAdvantage version 3.7, which extends support to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 and provides the foundation for Varonis to quickly add support for other Linux distributions such as SUSE, Ubuntu, etc.

Varonis DatAdvantage is an award-winning solution that has been tested and proven in over 600 installations worldwide. The addition of Linux support will allow organizations that use Linux to power their file systems to have unprecedented visibility and auditing of who can access their file system data, as well as who is using the data. Varonis DatAdvantage also recommends which users should have their access revoked, enabling organizations to efficiently clean up unwarranted access to unstructured data on these file systems.

"As organizations deploy Linux as part of their business infrastructure, they need solutions to ensure Linux file systems can be managed and monitored along with the rest of their data infrastructure," said Sally Hudson, research director, security products and services, IDC. "Using the same security principles applied to Windows and UNIX environments, it is fundamental for organizations with a Linux environment to safeguard, monitor and manage its mission-critical, proprietary data."

Varonis DatAdvantage version 3.7 provides a single, unified view of unstructured data across the enterprise, including Linux, Windows and UNIX file systems, as well as Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5 are supported in this latest version of DatAdvantage. With version 3.7, Varonis has also architected a foundation to enable support for other Linux distributions, with support for additional distributions to become available in the coming months.

"Unstructured data on Linux file systems is business-critical and faces the same challenges as data on Windows and UNIX file systems," said Yaki Faitelson, chief executive officer and co-founder of Varonis. “As organizations continue to deploy Linux in the data center, a data governance framework that continuously monitors data access is essential to ensure that only those employees with a legitimate need have access to key business assets, preventing sensitive corporate information from winding up in the wrong hands.”

Varonis Systems recently sponsored a Ponemon Institute study on the governance of unstructured data that overwhelmingly revealed that businesses lack the ability to govern their unstructured data. Inefficient, time-consuming processes have made the task all but impossible. Varonis is the first and only company whose products can scale efficiently and practically to control, manage and continuously audit data use by recommending and automating who should not have access to certain data sets. Varonis’ products enable businesses to monitor unstructured data-use without involving the IT department, instituting infrastructure changes or disrupting business.

The award winning Varonis DatAdvantage will be on display this week in Booth #405 at LinuxWorld Conference and Expo in San Francisco’s Moscone Center.
