NEW YORK – November 15, 2011 – Varonis Systems Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive data governance software, today announced that Hampton Products International Corporation, which manufactures and distributes consumer packaged goods such as padlocks, door hardware, cargo management and builders' supply, has deployed Varonis® DatAdvantage® for its data governance needs. Hampton selected Varonis® DatAdvantage® as part of a proactive initiative to provide visibility into how data is being accessed, moved or deleted, and used – and, by whom.
"We have a level of confidence now that we didn't have before Varonis," said Brian Millsap, CIO and Vice President, Hampton Products. "DatAdvantage® helps us simplify security and know with certainty that files and information at risk for overly permissive access are locked down."
Like many other organizations struggling to get their arms around data governance, Hampton needed a centralized way to gain visibility into how and when system administrators were accessing data. They also needed an automated process for changing or revoking access privileges. The automation capabilities within DatAdvantage® allowed Millsap and his team to monitor user access, and ensure that permissions are both accurate and up to date. Varonis helps them audit and manage data access control, identify and classify data owners, and oversee entitlement and authorization processes for critical data.
Millsap's motivation for implementing Varonis was based on a desire to take a proactive approach to managing and protecting Hampton's sensitive data. "I wanted to get one step ahead of potential security risks and address them before they escalated," he said.
"Visibility, intelligence and automation are critical for managing and protecting critical data. Too often, organizations can't identify who the data belongs to, and who is accessing it," said David Gibson, Director of Strategic Accounts and Technical Marketing for Varonis. "Organizations like Hampton are a great example of a company looking to stay one step ahead of potential security breaches by taking data governance seriously."
Data governance solutions like DatAdvantage® and metadata frameworks such as the Varonis® Metadata Framework™ are a cost-effective way for organizations to better manage and protect their unstructured and semi-structured data by providing visibility and control over access controls, content, and access activity. Organizations can employ this metadata information to support IT initiatives such as entitlement reviews, compliance audits, data ownership identification, records management, domain and data migrations, consolidations, archiving and retention projects.
Four types of metadata are critical for data governance:
The Varonis Metadata Framework™ non-intrusively collects this critical metadata, generates metadata where existing metadata is lacking (e.g. its file system filters and content inspection technologies), preprocesses it, normalizes it, analyzes it, stores it, and presents it to IT administrators in an interactive, dynamic interface.
Varonis is the leader in unstructured and semi-structured data governance for file systems, SharePoint and NAS devices, and Exchange servers. Named a "Cool Vendor" in Risk Management and Compliance by Gartner and voted one of the "Fast 50 Reader Favorites" on FastCompany.com, Varonis has more than 4,500 installations worldwide. Based on patented technology and a highly accurate analytics engine, Varonis' solutions give organizations total visibility and control over their data, ensuring that only the right users have access to the right data at all times.
